Luke 8:24-25And they went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 He said to them, “Where is your faith?” …

Where is God?  This is the question of our hearts when circumstances are more overwhelming than His presence…
In the passage above, though Jesus is asleep, His presence “lies” in the midst of them and the danger.  Fear causes us to think danger is a sign of Jesus not being there, when really it is a test of our faith and love for the Lord, to please Him!  Faith is what proves love, and there is no better place to test His faithfulness and our own, than in a world where sin has bred nothing but “storms” all around us. (Galatians 5:6, 2 Timothy 2:13, Hebrews 11:6)

This “storm” was an opportunity for the disciples to see present danger overcome by faith. Faith realizes the presence of Christ, but more importantly the opportunity to know Him deeper and trust His character.  Growing to know His character strengthens our own, trusting that He will not allow the situation to overcome our faith, even though we cannot deny our fear in what we’re facing. (1 John 5:4)

Jesus not only wanted to test their faith in a “storm”, but also test how they saw Him.  What are the questions we ask ourselves about Jesus in “storms”?  “Are You trustworthy?” Don’t You care about what might happen to me from this!?” etc. etc.

Yet the “storm” is about experiencing personal security in Who Christ is, by faith!  Let Him prove His faithfulness and love for you in a storm, so we can give people hope in Christ from the things we survived, when we feared He would let us perish!
Remind yourself of God’s unchanging faithfulness, though our circumstances and moods are always changing.  Find your stability in our Lord-In His Love, Ld
