A riddle: What is both free and costly at the same time? Answer: Grace.

Grace is free. It cannot be earned nor be worked for. It can only be received. However, it will cost everything to those who receive it.

But how can something free be so costly? We get confused because we associate “free” with worthless. If it cost us nothing, it must not have been very valuable. However, grace (of eternal life) is so valuable that it is literally “priceless.” It cannot be bought. It simply must be received. But upon receiving it, it will cost us everything we have. Another example would be a baby offered to an infertile couple. He may be “free” but upon receiving him, the couple would be willing to sacrifice everything for the baby, including their lives.

For some, grace will cost their marriage. It will cost some children to leave their parents. It will cost some people their jobs. It will cost some to leave the country. For some, it will be their very lives.

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:26

But what is this grace that is so valuable? What is He really offering? He is not offering us just eternal life (Who really wants to live forever?) He is offering Himself to us. He, who is the source of all things beautiful, pleasurable, bountiful, and wonderful (wonder filled).

Are you ready to exchange your life and possessions for Jesus Christ? (To give up temporary, earthly life to gain eternal, heavenly life)
