Genesis 29:34-35Again she conceived and bore a son, and said, “Now this time my husband will be attached to mebecause I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.  35 And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she called his name Judah. Then she ceased bearing.

At times we can constantly look for significance through what the Lord can give, rather than resting in Him, with a heart of praise in everything He has given because of who He is. (1 Corinthians 1:30-31)

In going through trials and receiving blessings, Leah reached a place where she finally thought she would get the love/respect she “deserves” from her husband, but inevitably made him an idol over God and the “rest” He provides. She was in a relationship of “using” God, because she wasn’t satisfied with what He made her to be or had already given her.

The Lord and the praise due to Him is never a “means” to just get another blessing, but the “means and end” for contentment in Him alone. Leah was seeking the approval of her husband as her ultimate goal, instead of contentment in the Lord. So though she was richly blessed she was dissatisfied with her life, never really content with God and what He had already blessed her with…(Job 20,20, 1 Timothy 6:6)

Like Leah we can find ourselves dissatisfied with our life, though richly blessed, greatly frustrated because we haven’t received what we ultimately want, whatever that is. But also like Leah, we can come to the place where we don’t need to seek anyone/anything else, because we’ve come to rest in Jesus, who is the ultimate blessing and satisfaction of our souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)

Continue pressing in to see the Lord as the ultimate “means and end” to your desires. As we find contentment in Him, we eventually realize what we thought we needed, ceases to pull our souls into discontentment.-In His Love, Ld
