I spent so much time trying to find God’s will for my life in my younger years. The Bible doesn’t seem to give too much information on how to find God’s will for our lives. And I think there is a reason for it.
When we think “God’s will for our lives”, we think in terms of what. Like what does God want us to do? What career? What major? What spouse? But in most cases, when the Bible speaks about God’s will, it speaks in terms of how. How we are to work in the position we are in, for example.
“Don’t work only while being watched, in order to please men, but as slaves of Christ, do God’s willfrom your heart.” Eph 6:6What is God’s will in this case? Doing our work (whatever it is) to the best of our abilities as to the Lord. It doesn’t matter so much WHAT the work is. It matters HOW we work – to the Lord!
Vast majority of the people in the world do NOT get to choose the type of work they do. Only in America in this century, we get to choose our career. So the Bible does not have a whole lot to say about how to choose our career – it doesn’t matter as much as we think – but with what attitude we work at whatever our career is!
I’m starting a new job as a math teacher at Lakes High School. God’s will for me is to work at it as if I’m working for Christ, and not for pay or self-glory.
Do your mundane job well as if to the Lord. That is God’s will.
