1 Samuel 17:37And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”

One of the things we learn to cherish from a relationship with God, is the experience of “victories” He has accomplished in our life.  I like to see it as “ammunition” to look back on, when the enemy is attacking me, and wants me to lose my zeal for the Lord.
Much like David in this passage, what set him apart from his brothers and the rest of Israel during this fight against Goliath, was his zeal to recount the victories the Lord had given him.  Even though David had never faced anyone like Goliath, this wasn’t his first battle with an enemy that the Lord had to deliver him from!
How do you see your life in reference to how David saw his with the Lord?  Do new challenges or attacks from Satan, cause you to recoil and think you are defeated before the battle has even started?  The goal for all of us who know the Lord, is to first acknowledge that the battle is not ours, but the Lord’s.  Trusting what God can do, becomes a necessity whenever defeat is looming…
One principle I believe we can learn from David, that led up to such a life altering victory, was that the seasons in his life never dictated his zeal for the Lord.  Whether he was shepherding sheep or defeating Goliath, or ruling Israel, he was zealous for the Lord (except with Bathsheba).  Zeal for the Lord wherever we are in life, whether high or low, signifies to God that we are after His heart, not a status or anything outside of His glory.
Challenge yourself and see whether or not your zeal rises and falls with how “good” things are going?  When Jesus is truly our treasure, any zeal that we lost we need to go back to Him to recover it.  Because that is what separates us, from those who are unwilling to fight against the threat of the enemy, and experience God being victorious in our lives. (1 Samuel 17:11, Proverbs 21:31)Romans 12:11-Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.
