Are you currently in the will of God such that you can pray, “Do not abandon the work of your hands?” You are not praying that God not abandon YOU but rather He not abandon HIS work which is being done through you.

David prays this prayer in Psalm 138:8

“The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;

your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.

Do not forsake the work of your hands.”

Isn’t it interesting how David puts it? He doesn’t say, “Do not forsake the work of MY hands.” Rather, he is praying that God will not abandon His own work which is being done through David. Now, this prayer is only possible if we are in the will of God and doing His work. If we are simply living for ourselves, this prayer would make no sense.

What are you doing that you can pray, “Establish your work through me?”

This prayer gives us confidence in doing God’s will. If we are in God’s will, we can boldly go to Him and remind Him that for us to fail would mean His work would be abandoned. Therefore the onus is on God and not on us.

I believe God likes and approves this kind of prayer. His reputation is on the line. And we are not putting our faith on our own ability to do something great but on God.

However, the pre-requisite to this prayer is that we are in the will of God and we are attempting something great for God.

Get on doing the work of God that you could be bold in asking God to bless it.
