Be a blessing to others, so that you may be blessed.

You’ve heard me say that many times. I pray that prayer when someone provides food or service for the good of the people. It is an absolutely biblical view, coming straight from the bible.

“Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.” 1 Peter 3:9

I DO want you to be blessed by God. Now, when I say “blessed”, I don’t necessarily mean what most prosperity preachers mean – a private jet, a million dollar home, fame, etc. But I do believe certain physical provisions can be a blessing. Such as a healthy body. Food on the table. A new home to raise our family in. Even a reliable vehicle to transport us.

I would even go a little further than that. I have seen people in our church whom God has provided sufficiently not only to take care of themselves but extra to help and serve others. I want God to “bless” them more and more so that they will continue to bless others around them.

But I believe the true blessing is a heart that wants to be a blessing to others. It’s the heart that is not all about the self. Some of the most miserable people are those who are ridiculously rich (blessed?) and devilishly selfish. True blessing is in blessing others and being glad in it because that is precisely what God has done for them – blessed them with His Son’s life!

I think we can pray for this kind of blessing. This is a prayer of a righteous man/woman to want to bless others and does bless others when opportunity comes.

Did you know that your presence can be a blessing to someone? Don’t forget to bless your church by being present this Sunday! =)
