I was glancing at the Billboard Music Award show last night. All these celebrities, I’m guessing, came up to receive their award and to perform. Janet Jackson – one of the few names I recognized – received the Billboard Icon award for her “achievement” in the music industry. Now, I don’t have any idea who all these people are who are either receiving the awards or performing. I’m as far removed from the pop culture as the west is from the east. But I see that apparently these people recognize, congratulate, value, and get inspired by all these people who were being awarded. But for someone who has no interest in that stuff, it sounded and looked funny that they would value something so much that I personally wouldn’t give a second look. (Actually, my idea of hell would be to have to listen to the type of music they were playing in an infinite loop!)

But I’m guessing that’s how they think of Christians. They would have no idea about what Christians value and what we get inspired by. And their idea of hell would be what we get inspired by and strive for. If so, then it is as it should be.

2 Cor. 6:14, “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?”

What is your tastebud calibrated to? Do you have a taste for the pop culture – not all of it is bad I know – or do you have a taste for spiritual matters? Which is stronger? What do you yearn for? Where is your heart leaning toward?

Turn off the gaudy street light so that you may see the brilliance of the light of God.
