Proverbs 16:2-3-All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit.3  Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

It seems that every time I catch my kids doing something “questionable”, they usually have a clear justification why they did what they did.  That’s because they did think about it, and decided there was nothing wrong with it, until I come and correct them for it!
If you think about the decisions you have made in your life, if you are honest, there where valid reasons in your mind, as to why you did it.  Even in looking back and thinking “how thoughtless was that”, at the time, it was “pure in our own eyes”. Pure enough to have a justification for it, towards others or to ourselves, if it was too embarrassing to share…
When we justify our actions or the way we think, what we are doing is “purifying them” or washing them so it can be acceptable, whether to our own conscience or to others.  Now we have allowed our justifications to be our ultimate authority.  If that is the case, than we won’t look to be submitted to God, Truth, or any order that violates our justifications!
This is why Jesus Christ must be our ultimate authority and justification in life.  If not, than we live justifying ways that seem pure to us, but are not justified by God, His Truth, and order?  We generally justify ourselves so we don’t feel guilty.  But that is why Christ came, so He can be our justification and free us from such guilt and shame!  So now we can live honest, when the way we think/act comes in conflict with His Truth and Spirit, and repent!  As Christians we should have a heart that wants to honor Him as our Authority, rather than our justifications…
Are you living to justify your life without submitting to the truth in Christ?  If so, you have to lie to at least two people about what’s true, yourself and God…
