Romans 9:1-I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit—

Assuming we all have been in some kind of argument with a spouse, friend, or family member, where we have allowed the passion to prove a point take us over emotionally.  In those situations have you ever thought why we feel we need people to believe “our side” of things, so much so we say things or do things we might regret?

The greatest defense against any accusation, misunderstanding, or disagreement is to have a pure conscience before God.  That being seen “as right” before people can make you feel like a slave to what they think or know about you, when the only one who truly knows is Christ. To live by the true principle, that “only God can open the eyes of the blind” can be comforting when you are trying desperately to prove your point or that you’re right! (Luke 4:18, Matthew 15:14)

Spending time with Christ in the Word shapes your conscience according to the Holy Spirit.  Allowing you to determine whether you’re right or wrong not by whether people agree with you or not, but if what you are doing or saying is going against the Holy Spirit!  People and their acceptance is not the final “determiner” of our peace, the reason they become that is because we have replaced pleasing Christ in our conscience for pleasing them.

Fight to purify your conscience before God and you won’t fight to prove everything to people.  Because they may struggle to accept what is right before God, so pray for them to deal with their own conscience before God that true peace can be shared with each other.
