We love diversity. God is glorified more as people who are natural enemies come together as one to worship Him. It shows to the world that Christianity is not a local religion, confined to a certain culture or people groups, but rather reaches to the world with its global nature. So, we love diversity in people. We love diversity in food! We love diversity in clothes and styles. We even love diversity in cheering for different football teams! (Although some would argue with that one!)

But not all diversity is good. Not when it comes to teachings about Christ.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace…” Hebrews 13:8-9

God’s truth is NOT diverse. It is very narrow. Truth by definition excludes! When we say “this is true,” we are saying “that is not!” Although this may seem narrow minded, it is not. The reason why teachings about Christ cannot be diverse is because He’s a person. They are not teachings about how we can become good enough to be accepted – in which case, diverse teachings will do. However, they are teachings about a specific Person of Jesus Christ. And we better not get it wrong about Him, or we would be worshiping a completely different person. Does it matter to you that your friends love you for who you are or simply their ideas of who you are whether true or not?

When it comes to people, diversity is like adding more food items to the buffet. The more the merrier.
But when it comes to truth, diversity is like adding poison and crud to pure spring water. The more the deadlier.

Have you eaten from the bread that is the word of God, yet? Have you drank from the pure living water that is Christ? Please do that even if it’s for 15 minutes a day.*
