John 4:48-51-So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.”  49 The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way.

In 2nd grade we did a project where we planted a seed and had the opportunity to see it grow.  I thought to myself after planting the seed the first day, “this is not going to work”.  Desperate to see a sign rather than believe in my teacher’s word I thought the process was a sham!

It was my unbelief in my teacher that I realized was the issue.  I didn’t trust that she knew what she was talking about, nor did I trust what was possible from her telling me what she knew!  I wanted a sign before I trusted this lady!

That’s how many of us our with God’s Word, we want a sign before trusting the Lord at His Word, which can be faithful to produce “the sign” we desire.  But the Lord doesn’t want to be a magician for us, but a lover of our soul, where trust is involved.  Faith in what the Lord says takes trust, the backbone of any relationship.

So getting results before we need to have any trust in God’s Word, won’t separate Jesus relationally from our favorite coffee barista!  Jesus is always after solid trust in Who He is by what He says!  Too many times I just want what He can do, and He won’t let me settle for such a loveless interaction!
