Are you content right now? If nothing changed in your circumstances in the near or distant future, would you be content?

Everyone thinks, “I will be content as soon as this current situation passes.” In the meantime, we are looking forward to a relief, better circumstances, or a change of pace.

We still think the source of our discontentment is from outside. “I will be happy only if (something changes in my circumstances…)”

But our circumstances are there only to help us become. God is not interest in making us happy. God is interested in making us like His Son.

What if we rejoiced solely at the fact that we are becoming like Jesus? Then, wouldn’t we view our maladies and difficulties in a totally different light? Rather than seeing them as unwelcome circumstances we want rid of, wouldn’t we see them as opportunities for us to grow?

Ps. 120:175, “Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me. I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.”

This psalmist understood his place before God. The purpose of his life was for God to be praised. Even if it means pain was inflicted on him…

We do not seek for suffering, but we can take suffering in a positive light when it comes.
