Good morning everyone

Daniel 2:21-He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to those who have understanding;

I recently had a great conversation with one of my wife’s little cousins who came to visit during winter break from school as a freshman at Colorado University in Boulder. He’s 19 so his questions are usually straightforward and intrusive! But one question he asked me about getting married and having a family, is whether Ange and I have any "fun"?

Now it might seem naive for a 19 year old who is at Colorado University as a freshman to compare the fun he has with the fun Ange and I have. But living with Ange’s parent and seeing how 3 young kids act when we visit them was enough for a 19yr old to conclude that there can’t be much enjoyment to it. But my answer to him was, "that as your life changes you have to redefine fun, and find joy in God where He has you", which wasn’t what he was looking for me to answer. But if I were to go along with my old college day definition of fun I would say absolutely not, we’re having no fun at all! But is that fair to God’s grace in our life and is fun the point of life?!

Now being 19 in college, it’s hard not to think individual fun-filled adventure is the definition of living. But it made me ask myself the question, "do I have an expectation that is defined by some "past adventures" in my life, or am I seeking for joy in God no matter how much life changes? In my own life and talking to others, I believe the biggest struggle for many of us is to not redefine the "season" we are in, and not have Christ as the center of our expectations. If we are on a quest for fun-filled adventure and want a career, and want a family, and a lot of friends, and personal time, such expectations are as naive as being 19.

So to be older and have responsibilities with the same expectations, is to not have matured into realizing that life’s demands pushes us beyond selfish fulfillment. Realizing the miracle that only Christ can fulfill us while giving up selfishness, along with gracing us to handle more responsibilities. Finally concluding that God controls our "times and seasons" for His purpose not ours.

In His Love, Ld
