Good guys do not always win. As a matter of fact, it seems that bad guys win more often than not. And if we expect everything to go wrong for the bad guy eventually, that’s not always true either. There are plenty of bad guys that live till good ole age and die in peace and leave millions of dollars to their equally bad children. Hugh Hefner for example… It makes you wonder why we should be good if it doesn’t seem to pay out in the end, doesn’t it?

Well, a psalmist had the exact same thought. Listen to this:

For I was envious of the arrogant

when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

For they have no pangs until death;

their bodies are fat and sleek.

They are not in trouble as others are;

they are not stricken like the rest of mankind.

Ps. 73:3-5

It’s not just in our day only that the wicked prosper. Even thousands of years ago, the wicked prospered and died of good ole age after enjoying the good things of this world. So then what is the answer to this dilemma? Why should we be good? Fortunately, the psalmist answers this:

Whom have I in heaven but you?

And there is nothin on earth that I desire besides you.

My flesh and my heart may fail,

but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Ps. 73:25-26

In other words, God Himself is our reward. The wicked may receive good things on this earth for 80 plus years, but we will receive God Himself who is the maker of all good things FOREVER!

The rich wicked should envy you! And he will one day! Live in richness of God today.
