John 5:44-45–How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? 

When you think of your own childhood, or just having your own children.  Much of our quest for worth comes from seeking it from parents.  As they get older it shifts to peers, while parents and family generally fall by the wayside.  Because there is a new “stimulus” to measure worth is in their lives…(if their faith is weak)

The challenge as a Christian, will be whether we continue measuring our worth in comparison with our desires, in a quest for our own glory.  Or allow the new “stimulus” of seeking God’s glory to replace them?  Jesus makes it plain that there cannot be both…

Jesus wanted the Jews to understand, that their desire to please people rather than God, was the reason they didn’t really want God at all.  Jesus knew that their seeking to be adored by people, gave them their own “glory”.  Which is why there is no reason to seek God, if that is our goal!

Jesus made it clear, that in order for Him to seek to fulfill God’s purpose on the cross, none of His own glory could be sought.  Echoing the sentiment of “no man able to serve two masters”.  If you find your struggle to be unbelief, it maybe God revealing your desire to be glorified in your will, while competing with His will and glory.  Which causes Him to resist our pride…(James 4:6)
