James 1:6-8-But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8  he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
The more experience I gain as a father, the more I find myself able to relate to the heart of God, and some of the things I didn’t understand before.  For example “doubt”, and how we can speak of it flippantly, not recognizing the offense it can carry when people you love doubt you without a valid reason.
Imagine a child saying to their parent who has guided them faithfully, “I doubt you will always love me like this”. Though that maybe true, you soon realize the offense it can cause the person who is being doubted, it indicts their character.  This helps us understand why God is so harsh in not giving anything to anyone who doubts Him!
Our doubt reveals our need to continue growing in the faith and conforming to Christ. Jesus had no doubts of His Father, and what He purposed to do in and through Him, trusting His wisdom throughout.  God of course has given us that same faith through Christ, it just needs to mature (Galatians 2:20).
As we mature we realize that our doubt is a sign of our immaturity.  Trusting our feelings, or seeking wisdom from people who lack interest in us like God does. Doubting God to lead our lives by His wisdom, is to compare His character and love to sinful people like ourselves.  So we can see why it is a great offense to the heart of God to doubt Him, while He has been nothing but faithful in His plan to guide us.
