Good morning everyone,
Psalm 5:3-O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.
Even if you are not in school or have kids going back to school during this fall season, there is a feeling like things get busier come this time of year. Life seems always busy, and I think busyness is relative, whether you’re single, married, married with child(ren) everyone is busy. However busy we maybe, I believe there is a definite need to “set apart” God in our hearts before we engage in any other business (1 Peter 3 v15).
I’ve learned throughout the different phases of my walk with God that I needed to structure and rigidly keep a time with God before I got engaged with anybody or anyone. Not just because I’m not a morning person, but because it helped me stay focused as to why I am waking up and doing whatever it was. The mornings I personally NEED with God not only equip me for the day with the peace and strength I need, but the purpose behind it all. Especially if you are getting up and nothing scheduled in your day would bring excitement or a desired challenge. But prayer and communion with God brings any mundane activity into the light of purpose, holy joy, and God’s glory.
David was a great example of someone going after the heart of God. I think it is true that an individual who begins their day with genuinely seeking God, not out of duty, but a desire to know Him deeper, will approach the day much differently. David was able to have a precious expectation, instead of a dreaded anticipation of drudgery that some seasons in life can bring. I wouldn’t make a “doctrine” out of rising 30 minutes earlier than normal just to be quiet before God and share your heart and hear His. But I will say that the man God Himself declared was “after My heart”, spoke of a morning devotional life as something precious to uphold.
In His Love, Ld
