I must confess that it is easy to throw mud at America for all its failures. Not only what she does to herself, but also how she influences (badly) the rest of the world. However, I must ask how often we pray on behalf of our country, standing between her and God’s wrath…
Abraham stands between God’s wrath and the wicked cities, Sodom and Gomorrah. When he knew that God was about to destroy it, he carefully asks if He would destroy it for the sake of 50 righteous people. When the reply is “no,” he brings that number all the way down to 10. God finally says He won’t destroy the cities if there are just 10 righteous people in them.
We know the rest of the story. Only four people – Lot, his wife, and his two daughters – are rescued and the rest are judged. But I want to focus on Abraham’s heart to pray on behalf of the wicked cities. He did NOT want to see them judged. He did what he could to spare them from being destroyed even though he knew of their wickedness.
Jesus knew of our wickedness. He knew we would bind Him and kill Him. Yet, He still came and died on our behalf.
Let us pray for our nation. Let us pray FOR the “wicked” people. That is what righteous people do. They stand in between God’s wrath and the wicked.
