We had some guests over to our house yesterday, and we had a grand old time reminiscing about the past. They are young moms and dads now, but I have known them since they were in middle schoo! We looked at pictures I have of them when they were that age (I was their youth pastor) and had good laughs as we recollected some fond memories.
I wish to continue to have fond memories looking back at today 20 years from now. Although it would seem difficult now, with Covid-19 and all, if we can stay faithful to the Lord and to the task He has given to us, even these difficult times can be looked upon with fondness and pleasure.
“… our Lord… who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began…” 2 Timothy 1:8-9
We are God’s children not because we were more worthy than those who are not. We are no worse but no better either than anyone else in the world. God has chosen us according to HIS own purpose and grace. Therefore, we must work hard to keep that which has been committed to us.
This means staying faithful to the Lord and doing that which pleases Him. So that when we look back at these days 20, 30 years from now, our heart will be glad.
Work for your joy. Your permanent, lasting joy.
