Merry White Christmas! It is snowing here in Puyallup on this Christmas morning! I can’t remember the last time it snowed on Christmas day even though I have always lived in a cold-in-winter region all my life!

How awesome it is to have our sins covered as snow covers the earth. All the crud, evil, shame, and guilt are covered under the blood of Jesus Christ as we put our trust in Him squarely and not in ourselves.

However, don’t make the mistake of thinking that if we trust in God, God will give us an easier and more comfortable life. It is precisely the opposite. When we decide to trust Him, He will bring us events that we can’t handle. He is bringing us to a point of trusting Him. After all, if we can handle the event on our own, why do we need to trust God?

The most painful experiences come when we are betrayed by the people who are closest to us. We can shrug off if we are jeered by our co-workers or acquaintances. But when it is our family member, our spouse, our own children, it is piercing to our heart. David speaks of this in Psalm 55:12, “For it is not an enemy who taunts me – then I could bear it;… but it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend.”

Why? God is training David to trust Him. And he says later on, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” Ps. 55:22

Christmas means that we are not to be trusted. If we can be trusted to save ourselves, Jesus would’ve never come. He came to do that which we couldn’t do. The only thing to do is to be like a child, turn to God, and say, “God, I can’t do this. Do it for me.” And He will.
