I had not noticed before that the Word mentioned in John 1:1 is the same as God’s voice that created everything in the beginning.
John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word.” And Genesis 1:3 says, “And God SAID, “Let there be light!”
God created the world with His voice. It was His words that created it. And John says that that very word is Jesus Christ – the second person of the Trinity. Furthermore, in Psalm 29:5, it says:
The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the Lord, over many waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
What is this voice? It is the same voice that created the world and now governs it. This voice, word, message, personified is Jesus Christ!
God’s word has the power to create, sustain, destroy, and recreate. Our (human) words are not as powerful. But since we are created in the image of God, and especially if we are redeemed by God, then our word can also bind, free, let live and let die (Matthew 18:18).
Drink deeply from the word of God this weekend. Go to church. Soak in the word of God. Feast on it. Then, meet in a small group and flesh out the word so that it will become more practical. Then, speak words of encouragement, peace, and joy to your fellow brothers and sisters.
Be the little word to those around you!
