1 Peter 2:19-For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly.
One of the things that I believe really helps people “push through” difficulties is having “a point of reference”.  That there is something or someone that inspires you to think, “that if they made it, then so can I!”  I think hearing about or seeing, whether it’s a parent or some influential figure in life endure, can help give us just what we need to overcome!
That is why I love biographies of people from all types of professions and backgrounds.  Because if you look hard enough, you can see all the places where you can relate to how they felt, and how they overcame obstacles in life, especially when life didn’t seem fair, or they were treated unjustly.  Personally it helps me be mindful of overcoming, as opposed to wallowing in the sorrow of my situation…
I believe as Christians there is no greater “reference point” in how to endure unjust treatment than our Lord Jesus.  Enduring refers to more than just suffering through injustice, but how we suffer through it.  That we can have something done to us that is unjust, yet if our response is not mindful of Christ, we won’t have a reference point to suffer as He did, repaying good for evil… (1 Peter 3:9)
Being mindful of God is an anchor of hope in the face of unjust treatment.  Because anyone naturally faced with injustice wants to fix it and make it just!  It is ideal and should be pursued.  But in a sinful and fallen world where money, power, and corruption seem to have “it’s way” true justice can seem impossible.  But when we do suffer through injustice, being mindful of God helps us to know, we are being conformed into the image of Jesus.  So there is not only hope, but ultimate victory!
