I recently had a conversation with a girl from my school that was very revealing of our culture. She was as white as you could be – blonde hair and blue eyes, and yet she said her pastime is watching Korean dramas! I was taken aback. Most people who enjoy Korean dramas are either Koreans or those who are related to Koreans. She was neither. A Korean friend got her into it, she said. But she enjoys it because they are not like American dramas and movies where they are over-sexualized and banal.

Here was a girl who, although spent her whole life in America, knew how wicked and sexualized America is. Not that Korea isn’t! There are many things wrong with Korea. However, the contrast of the differences was sufficient enough to let her see the wickedness.
In Ezekiel 9, God tells a man to mark every person who “sigh and groan” over all the sins in the city. Then, God orders everyone who doesn’t have the mark to be killed. So, only those who recognized the sins of the city are spared.
If God did that to America, would we survive? Do you groan and moan over the sins of America? Do you see it? Do you see it in TV shows? Do you see it people’s lives? Do you see it in corporations? Do you see it in advertisements? Do you see it in entertainment and what they call leisure? Do you see it in social media? Do you hear it in music?
Do you sigh and groan, longing for God’s kingdom to replace this one?
Do you see that we live among sinners, of whom we are one?
Keep desiring to see God’s glory. “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” Matt 5:8
