1 John 4:10-In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Knowing that I am the kind of person who “wears my emotions on my sleeve”, it is a necessary fight for me to give my heart to the Lord, that my emotions be of genuine love towards my family and anyone else.  Otherwise they will see my frustration, as well as my lack of initiating love towards them…
Whatever definition we have of love that doesn’t require us to initiate action, is a sign of immaturity or no love at all.  The apostle John is defining love as being of God, but that definition is described in the Father giving His Son, before we showed any affection at all towards Him.  In other words He initiated love by an action, to prove His love…
The challenge we have, is to ask ourselves whether or not we have settled for love being something that isn’t recognizable to God.  For example, if we say we love our spouse or children, and initiate no action to prove this love, are we really walking in the kind of love that influences security and acceptance? There could have once been love, but love is continually growing hot or cold, there is no neutral.
The challenge for all of us as professing Christians, is to measure whether we really walk in love or not?  Or do we pick and choose when to show love, and when not to? That would be discriminatory and no at all from God.  But that is the question, are we allowing how we feel, to dictate whether we will initiate love or not?  Are we waiting for people to show us the kind of love, God sent His Son for us to initiate, and influence the world with?  This is why the quest to walk in the love of God, is the most humbling call for us to excel in.  Let it cause you to pray desperately to walk in it!
In His Love, Ld
