James 1:5-If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
Whenever I don’t understand a situation, that is when I become the most frustrated and faithless.  That being part of our fallen nature, in believing the lie “that we will be like God” without submitting to God.  Getting wisdom from God in a trial by faith, maybe the most important component to enduring it patiently in a God honoring way…
But in order to seek God for wisdom in a trial, God has to be your life (Colossians 3:3-4).  By that I mean, we don’t seek God because we suddenly need help, like a crisis hotline.  But we seek God because we love Him, and want the relationship to flourish.  It is plain immaturity to be in a relationship and simply seek “to get” from it, and never give.  That’s what children do in their immaturity.
James speaks about seeking wisdom from God in the context of verse 1-4, calling us to endure trials so we can mature, and become “perfect, lacking in nothing.”  He is really saying that as we mature and go through trials, we will seek God for wisdom in the trial, because we want to mature in our relationship with Jesus.
Instead of being frustrated at God for disturbing our comfort and idolatry, trials reveal if we are with God for Him, or are we with God for what He gave us.  Blaming others in a trial, reveals that we aren’t seeking God and His wisdom on how this can mature us in the relationship that matters most.
In His Love, Ld
