2 Corinthians 4:7But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.8We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;

What can sometimes be very stressful about life and hard to adjust to, though you may strive to live by faith in God, is the disappointment of setbacks.  It’s not biblical to think that nothing bad will ever happen to us, because Jesus promises suffering in this world.  But it is also unbiblical to have no expectations for good, because that is a sign of no hope only despair…

The challenge when “setbacks” come is for us to examine what we are after.  Disappointment allows us to go back and look at what we may be doing wrong, or what were the motives of our pursuits.  God has mysterious ways that are not ours, teaching us that His blessed will doesn’t come from our plans but His!
If we’re honest, no one naturally pursues the path of humiliation for their lives.  We generally would choose the path that best exalts our own image and glory.  But this is why God calls us to follow Him through disappointment, frustration and unmet expectations.  All of this to humble us, and teach us that all goodness and true glory reside in Him and His ways, not our own!
So, though we will face heartache, frustrations, and failures, it is all for us to understand we are vessels of His glory and power.  Allowing disappointment keeps us from trying to make our ways work, so we can rest in God working out His will and glory through us!
In His Love, Ld
