I used to think that insecurities are a teenage phenomenon. You know how teenagers feel insecure about their looks, weight, family backgrounds, and stuff they own. But adults suffer from this as well. It’s just that adults do a better job of hiding it…

Insecurities manifest themselves in many ways. Obvious ones are self-deprecation, shyness, lack of ambition, risk-aversion, lack of friends, extreme sensitivity to others’ comments, feeling everyone’s against you, jealousy over others’ success…

But they also manifest in less obvious ways. Buying above means. Exercising excessively. Dwelling on the glorious past. Constantly comparing with others. Being anxious and nervous often.

Insecurities come from not knowing who we are. Our worth is measured only in relationship with others. So depending on whom we associate ourselves with, we either feel good or bad about ourselves.

But what if we were perfectly secure in Christ? What if our worth is not on shifting sand but on solid rock which is Christ? What if we have truly accepted what God says about us rather than what our friends on FB say about us?

You were bought with a price; do not become bondservants of men.” 1 Cor. 7:23

We will be confident but humble at the same time.

We will listen to other’s criticism and become better.

We will be able to laugh at ourselves and make others comfortable.

We will take more risks according to holy ambition.

We will be generous using our own resources.

We will be able to rejoice at others’ successes

We will be sensitive yet compassionate.

Know who you are in Christ. You are a child of the King!
