One way we know Satan is alive and well is that we have bought into his lies.

One of his lies is that what’s holy is boring and dull; what’s deviant is fun and exciting. But nothing could be further from the truth. What’s deviant (evil) is simply what is good that has gone bad. Evil cannot exist on its own. There is no such thing as “pure” evil. It only borrows from the good.

Why is fornication bad? (sex outside marriage) Because it’s using the good (sex) outside of its purpose (marriage).
Why is overeating bad? Again, using the good (food) outside of its purpose (by over-doing it).
Why is racism bad? It’s viewing my race (which is sacred) as greater than other races (not how God purposed it).

But as a child whose diet only consisted of junk food from birth, we take more enjoyment from the junk of the world than from the pure. The more our bodies get filled with sugar, fat, and chemicals, the more we crave it. And when we are given the good food – vegetables, fruits, healthy meat – we say “yuck.”

We are like the child who was born to a druggy. It’s in our system and we are not satisfied until we get it. And even though we know it’s killing us, we still must go after it! That’s because we are slaves. We are slaves to our sin and our father, Satan!

We needed a Savior.

“Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to what is false
and does not swear deceitfully.”
Ps. 24:3-4

But who is like that? Who is clean and pure? You? Me? No! But Jesus Christ alone!

And He gives us His righteousness and purity when we believe on Him! And then and only then, can we ascend that hill toward God in purity and joy with the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.”
Ps. 24:8

Once you’ve been tasting and consuming on the holy, the unholy seem so passe and boring. When avant-garde is the norm, it’s no longer so…

Are you there yet? Do you still feel the world with its gaudy lights and flashes are more dazzling than a simple pleasure from God? Have you seen that the wonder, truth, love, and security from the Lord are infinitely superior to world’s imitation of them?

Taste and see that the Lord is good! (And much more pleasurable!)
