God is good. But He is not safe!

I think we equate being good with being safe. But they are not the same. What is safe is not necessarily good. What is good is not necessarily safe.

“Aslan is a lion-the Lion, the great Lion.” “Ooh” said Susan. “I’d thought he was a man. Is he quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion”… “Safe?” said Mr. Beaver…. “Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.” C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

We are troubled by this. I am troubled by this. I don’t want not to be safe. I like being safe. I like my comfort and peace. So, I like the thought of God being more like a grandfather who will always be there for me, dote on me, and give me whatever I want. But I do not like very much the thought of Him being my King who could tell me to go into a battle knowing that I could lose my life…

Herein lies the faith. I must put my faith in the fact that God is good. And if I’m going to be in danger, it is BECAUSE it is good for me.

God is not an anesthesiologist. God is a surgeon!

2 Cor. 12:7, “So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited.”

Therefore, if you are going through some pain and suffering and you are a believer, God is doing a surgery on you. He is not out the punish you or harm you, but He is out to fix you and make you better. You must believe He is good. That’s faith!
