We talk much about following Jesus, but have you ever thought about Jesus following us? That’s right. There are times when God follows us!

Imagine this scene: People are busy and preoccupied trying somehow to find fulfillment. They’re trying to find it in many different places. They go after relationships, a better paying job, friends, building a family, a retirement, etc. But the whole time, there’s a man following after them with his hands stretched out to them saying, “Here am I. I’m what you are looking for! Only I can give you what you are seeking for. Come to me!” Of course, that person is Jesus.

I have used that imagery in my conversation with someone last week. I was sharing with that person how I picture so many Americans who are desperate for meaning and fulfillment trying so desperately to find it. And yet the whole time Jesus has been following them around trying to get their attention to come to Him. But I was stunned to find that exact imagery as I was reading the Bible this week!

“I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said, “Here am I, here am I. All day long I have held out my hands to an obstinate people, who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations…” Isa. 65:1,2

This is reminiscent of the almost pathetic scene of the father in the story of the prodigal son – forsaking his dignity and running toward the wayward son. Oh, how much he loves! Only if we will turn around and see God who has been following us all along just wanting us to come back to Him…

Won’t you come to Him?
