“Linsanity” is sweeping across the nation. I have to admit that every time Jeremy Lin plays, I’m watching the highlights on Sportscenter… (Last night’s was crazy!!!)

I believe one of the reasons for the sensation is that it further promotes the American mentality, “You can do anything if you believe in yourself.”

I know Jeremy Lin himself would not adhere to that mentality – himself a believer in God as I’ve heard him say. But it is the ubiquitous, “The answer lies within us. We can accomplish anything we put our mind to,” mentality that shows through in interpreting such a phenomenon by the media.

The world says: Problems are outside of ourselves. Answers lie within ourselves.
The Word says: Problems are within ourselves (sin). Answers lie outside (God).

Do you see why we always blame our upbringing, our circumstances, other people, etc for the things that have gone wrong in our lives? The world brainwashed us to think that the problem lies outside of ourselves. Therefore, we must believe in ourselves, work hard, catch some lucky breaks to get out of it…

We cannot save ourselves no more than a slave can free himself by working hard. (The harder he works, the more the master wants to keep him!)

How do we ever solve the problem of selfishness, for example? If we ever solved it, we will become all the more proud and selfish for solving it!

We have a problem. Sin. God gave us the solution. Jesus.

Look to Jesus for all your problems. Look up; not look within.

1 Peter 3:18
For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,

P.S. Go Jeremy Lin! I heard that Christians in China are hoping that the Chinese government will be more open to Christianity through Jeremy Lin! Praise God!
