Nostalgia can produce such powerful emotions.

When I hear an old song I haven’t heard in a while, see a scene similar to where I grew up, smell my mom’s old recipe, I’m instantly transported to a time in the past. And I ache and long for for that time, place, circumstances….

But that time is no more. That place is no more. Those circumstances are no more. Forever gone.

I realize what I’m longing for is home.

I long to go home.

And this is not my home.

What we are really longing for, that show through our nostalgia is this:

Psalm 24:4, “One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.”

Find your rest in God. Put your hope in God. Everything else disappoints…
