Good morning everyone,
Exodus 16:19-21-And Moses said to them, "Let no one leave any of it over till the morning." 20 But they did not listen to Moses. Some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them.
God had laid a great call upon Moses to lead the children of Israel through the wilderness and into the promise land. We see one of his greatest struggles in leading the children of Israel was for them to trust God for their new freedom and provision in it. This was the same struggle Moses had prior to being called by God and even while leading His people. However Moses had learned in his own appointed call by God that He desires our hearts to believe and live a daily life of trust in Him as our provider of whatever we need (Philippians 4 v19).
So in context Moses is instructing the Israelites on specifically what to do with their "manna" or daily provision. Moses greatest struggle throughout the whole wilderness experience with the Israelites was for them to trust God. First they had to trust God’s servant that Moses was actually called by God, and giving them what God desired for them to have. But the lynchpin between them trusting Moses and doing God’s will was that they had to trust God personally! The children of Israel were completely insecure as to what God was doing and "murmured" against Moses because their circumstances called them to live by faith, not by sight!
I believe as Christians this is why there must be a daily deep trusting relationship with Jesus Christ. The way that comes to pass biblically is that we seek to find everything we need, whether it’s identity or more practical things to be sought in Jesus by faith (Philippians 4 v19). Like the children of Israel we look to gather things from our past for security and use them in the future. Especially our identity of self-reliance. However none of that involves faith in His Spirit, which the bible says "renews day by day", while the flesh "decays" (2 Corinthians 4 v16). My prayer for myself and all of you would be that we would be renewed in our spirit by a life of faith. And not allow our self-reliance to prove to us that it cannot last and be our provision for the future.
In His Love, Ld
