What do you think of God when your desperate prayers are not answered?
What do you think of God when tragedy strikes?
What do you think of God when your hearts’ desires are not met?
Do you think of an apathetic, calloused, too-big-for-little-people type of God? Or perhaps an angry God?
But we have a God who weeps! “Jesus wept” (John 11:35)
When Jesus saw Mary weeping at her brother’s passing and everyone else who cared for him weeping, His own eyes got watery. Soon, tears started flowing from His eyes down to His cheeks. And this on the face of God! Then, He wiped off His tears with His sleeves…
We have a God who sings, who runs, who rejoices, who gets angry, and who weeps….
But His tears are not the tears of helplessness and frustration like ours. Jesus fully knew what He was going to do with the dead Lazarus. He was going to raise him up, and there will be rejoicing. But He has seen what sin has done in our lives and He so deeply identified with it and thus became the only One who did anything for it, truly. He died to save us from it!
Praise be to God. I wouldn’t have my God any other way, would you?
