Good morning everyone,
John 1:14-And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
I had the privilege of seeing a young man this weekend playing basketball who I couldn’t recognize because he may have been fifteen the last time I saw him. He came up to me, and said his older brother’s name who I played ball against a lot, and I almost fainted! I did feel "aged" but seeing people like that is great too! Also considering what he was about to tell me.
The young man now 27, had just gotten out of prison almost a year or two ago after doing 4 years. I know his family, especially his dad and older brother pretty well and know it had to hurt them. He told me he came to Christ in jail and beyond just "a jailhouse conversion" he admits that what he was doing before had no truth in it all. Even with all the warnings his loving but unbelieving family gave him, he needed the power of Christ to see it and do it.
Looking back and talking to my mom about who I am now and who I used to be, she would say "I taught you right and wrong". But the problem I had with sin like this young man was not having the power of Christ and truth invested in me to see an alternative to reckless decisions that separate us from God. It may sound like blaming, but God commands that truth be sought by us and taught to children for that very reason. How are you giving an alternative to your sinful nature/kids? Are you feeding on the truth and grace God provides in Christ? Are you presumptous and think you are too moral to make reckless decisions?
In His Love, Ld
