Yesterday, after church, I took my daughters to watch a movie. I bought them popcorn and after enjoying our movie, we came home for dinner. Then, we washed up and got ready for bed. We had a restful night and this morning, we all went to school.
How mundane? (Were you waiting for a punch line?) But what I described is what millions in the past had given their lives to attain. I’m thinking of soldiers who fought at WWII, Korean War or Vietnam War. Many young men gave their lives so that we can keep doing what I just did with my daughters on a Sunday afternoon.
Freedom isn’t free. It was bought by the blood. But I’m not referring to the lives that were lost on the battle field, although I am very appreciative. I’m referring to the LIFE that was lost on the cross for the good of all peoples.
The movie that we watched was Avengers: The End Game. Not to spoil the movie, but one of the reasons why it was so moving (my daughter cried) is because of the element of sacrifice. We intuitively know it as honorable and beautiful when someone sacrifices himself/herself for others.
This is why we worship Jesus. Being God, He sacrificed Himself for us. This should move our hearts more than any other.
“Be still, and know that I am God.I will be exalted among the nations,I will be exalted in the earth!” The Lord of hosts is with us;the God of Jacob is our fortress.” Ps. 46:10-11
He has earned the right to be exalted, although He didn’t have to.
