Proverbs 11:25Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.
A few days ago my son was sharing with me how there are times he isn’t looking forward to doing something, but when he does it, he’s glad he did!  I laughed when I shared with him that I am no different, and we get that from our sinful desire to be comfortable, selfish, and unchallenged…(Matthew 25:14-30)
So today I was scheduled to be a “W.A.T.C.H. Dog” at my daughter’s school, that I signed up for months ago.  (A “Watch dog” is a male mentor that visits classes and helps with various activities).  Yet when the day finally approached, I was dreading it because I wanted to have that day to myself, especially since they just went back to school last Thursday!
So as I got up this morning to get ready, I just pushed past my selfishness and decided to go.  But during the drive this morning, I prayed that the Lord would help me have a heart to enjoy this day.  So I challenged my selfish desire to be comfortable in quietness for screaming children at recess…
Little did I know, as soon as I reached my oldest daughter’s P.E. class, I had a great time conversing with their P.E. teacher (who had my son years ago) as well as seeing my daughter enjoy her classmates.  I also saw how much a difference kid’s I didn’t know at all, respond to you spending time with them, with random hugs and a million questions, literally!
I left the school this afternoon, with a such a great appreciation of Christ love by wanting us to live experiencing serving people as life giving, instead life of sucking!  Sure we need time to ourselves to refresh, but if our life is consumed by seeking to be selfish, than we lose the opportunity to be “watered” by the Lord in serving others.
