2 Corinthians 10:4–For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
It always easier to spot others “flawed mentality” than our own. Mainly because we have operated in our mindset for so long, that what maybe considered “flawed” is normal to us. We generally like to surround ourselves with people who don’t confront us for our “flawed mentality”, or we find a way to justify it when it is confronted…
Justifying a “flawed mentality”, (and by flawed I mean whatever is not true and God glorifying), is a stronghold. Strongholds were barricades for protection used throughout Old Testament battles. It was considered a place of safety from the enemy. Now think about why you and I justify something that is not right? Though it maybe flawed, that way of thinking or living is a “place of safety”, a stronghold to fight against opposition…
The key to fighting our own strongholds, is to first consider that we are wrong to live by them! To be adamant about our ways, is a complete contradiction to wanting to be led in God’s ways! There is no room for correction from the truth in how we think, if we live hiding in our strongholds. We can identify being captive to a stronghold, when we fight to protect a way of thinking over Christ and Him as the Truth…
Ironically Christ came to destroy our strongholds, knowing that it would take the Holy Spirit’s power to do so. The victory in Christ enables us to replace strongholds with the truth! This is why we can’t argue our way to harmony with people who live to defend a stronghold! As wild as their justifications may sound to live by, remember strongholds are protection against opposition, even the Truth!
This is why freedom in Christ is a process to be actualized and “walked in” until glory. Because Christ needs to set us free from thinking, that the strongholds of our past are “safety” for us. Christ destroys the grip of strongholds, so that we don’t live trying to protect ourselves with false thinking, that doesn’t lead to true life and freedom in Him…
