1 Chronicles 22:17-19–David also commanded all the leaders of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying, 18 “Is not the Lord your God with you? And has he not given you peace on every side? For he has delivered the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land is subdued before the Lord and his people. 19 Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God. Arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God may be brought into a house built for the name of the Lord.”
One of the more crucial things in trying to focus on building on what God has called me to do, is try and avoid unnecessary negativity. Whether that is a contentious mindset, people, or situations if I can help it. Because the energy to deal with strife in me or around me, while trying to build feels impossible to do…
If you read the whole chapter of Chronicles 22, David explains to his son Solomon, that the Lord will not allow him to build the temple of the Lord, because David had too much “blood on his hands” from war (1 Chronicles 22:9). David knew God used his warring spirit to fight and subdue the enemy, that peace surround Solomon, so he can build the temple instead…
This situation is much like our own fight against sin, the devil, and the world. That though we do engage in spiritual warfare and need to be equipped, if all our days are spent in contention or warring, when is there time to build? The Bible says there is a season for everything, a time for war and a time for peace (Ecclesiastes 3:1,8). But if we allow ourselves to be surrounded with war and strife in our soul, where do we find the peace to seek God so we can build?
God gave David a purpose to subdue the enemies around him. While his son Solomon’s purpose was to build the temple. But David’s life was riddled with war and strife. Whereas God promised peace in Solomon’s day so he can build (1 Chronicles 22:9-10). In your purpose from God, are you seeking the peace of God so you can build? Or are you riddled by the contention in you and around you, keeping you from being able to do what God has called you to? (Philippians 4:5-7)
