I love the young people. Probably for selfish reasons though. When I look at them, I feel vibrant and alive. Maybe that’s why I worked with the youth for so many years. But at the same time, I can’t help but be reminded of how short life really is. In just short brief years, these young people will be where I am…
It’s depressing just thinking about getting old (Or older in my case!). “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”… when men rise up at the sound of the birds, but all their songs grow faint… and desire no longer is stirred. Then man goes to his eternal home…” Ecc. 12:1, 4, 5
Once you’ve passed your 20’s, it’s all downhill… Your senses become dull. You no longer get excited about anything. Everything seems same ole, same ole. Even the desire for new things grows faint. Then we die… Isn’t that sad? But it’s true. Undeniable….
Read the rest of Ecclesiastes 12 to see how it ends – what brings the sense of wonder back!
