If you had been reading the devotionals and/or listening to the messages lately, you may think I have something negative to say about seeking safety. It goes something like, “God doesn’t care so much about our happiness and comfort but that we follow Him whatever the cost.” And that means following God’s will might not be safe.
However, I am all about seeking safety. I want my family and me to be safe! But the question is where do I seek it?
Ps. 4:8, “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
I believe the safest place to be is in God’s will. It’s not in playing the odds and not traveling to unsafe places where they persecute Christians. It’s not in moving into a safe neighborhood away from gangs and violence. It’s not in buying the most expensive and safe car in case we get into an accident. If God wants to take our life, all it would take is for a semi-truck driver to doze off for 1 second just at the right (or wrong) time!
But we are absolutely safe when we are in God’s will! The God of the universe who controls every molecule in the universe assures that. That does not mean however that our life will not be cut short. As a matter of fact, following God’s will might very well cut our life short. But I’d much rather die early following God’s will valiantly than live long and die while choking on a meatball served in an extravagant cruise!
We die either way. I’m pretty sure of it.
Seek safety in God. That means getting on board and engaging in God’s mission.
