True peace comes in the midst of chaos; not in lack thereof. We think we will have peace when things settle down, our tomorrows taken care of, we hear a good report from the doctor, etc. But true peace comes from knowing that we are in God’s hands and that He is a good God.

“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Ps 4:8.

David wrote this while he was unpopular with the people and his enemies were trying to bring him down. Where did he find peace in those dark times? Not in the prospect of having them turn out favorably. He didn’t wait until things sorted themselves out to have peace. But while things were still chaotic, he decided that God is in charge and he will put his trust in Him.

How blessed David was to have learned this! I know I tend to wait until I am ensured of everything turning out well to feel peace. Isn’t this why we buy insurance, buy from stores with good return policy, eat healthy, invest in retirement, so that we will have good many years to live in peace? But true peace comes only from the Lord because He is the only One who holds the future in His hands. Our control of the future is an illusion…

God sent His Son for you long before you were even created. He cares about you more than you care about yourself. Would you put your trust in Him?
