One word from God can make all the difference in the world. When was the last time you heard from God?

Mary was distressed. Her hope was dashed. The very purpose of her life was crushed. Jesus had just died, and what’s worse, someone removed His body and so, she couldn’t even give Him a proper burial. It was bad enough that the Person whom she lived for just died, and now she can’t even find His body. Talk about kicking a person while he’s down…

But one word changed all of that. “Mary.” Jesus called out her name. Instantly, she recognized Him. He had called her affectionately and tenderly like that before. And it was this familiar calling of her name that made her recognize the voice. (John 20:15-16)

What we need to hear more than anything else is God’s voice. His voice calling out our name because He knows us and loves us. More important than our knowing God’s name, it is God knowing our name that truly matters. His calling our name will make all the difference in the world.

Are you tired? Are you desperate? Are you about to give up? Are your hopes dashed? Call out to God. And wait for Him to call your name. Don’t turn to social media. Don’t turn to other means of distraction. Turn to God and cry out for Him. One word from Him can make all the difference in the world.

This Summer, strive to hear from God. Don’t neglect the word of God. It might be the only thing that will sustain you.
