Isaiah 8:11-14–For the Lord spoke thus to me with his strong hand upon me, and warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying: 12 “Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. 13 But the Lord of hosts, him you shall regard as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
I had a conversation with a fellow church member (who is no longer with our church) about his political views about 5 years ago. He was very stressed and hostile regarding some of the policies he didn’t agree with, to the point he was worried about his family. Which I understood, but one thing I tried to do was put in perspective his own influence. I told him no matter who is in what “seat”, no one is going to help me lead my wife better, or be a better father to my kids, or pastor in our church, etc…
In no way did I want to dismiss his concerns, because they were real and legitimate. But I didn’t want him to lose the power of his own influence, and feel like it belongs to some congressman or congresswoman. In other words, I wanted to remind Him of who He belongs to and who has real power that lives in him, Christ the Lord!
This is exactly what God had to do to Isaiah to remind him in the midst of “all the voices” that entertained the “conspiracies” people believed at the time. Isaiah was obviously concerned about everything that was going on as well. But the Lord wanted Isaiah to remain steadfast and rooted in the truth, and in fear of Him, more than anyone else.
I believe the Lord was adamant about His prophet not being overthrown by conspiracies, because God knows that we cannot affect properly an environment we are “swept up” in. That the mentality of Christians cannot be the same as the people who live in fear of the times, and who don’t know the Lord. God wants us to have an influence through His Son as the Light in darkness. But we cannot be influenced like those who don’t know hope outside of their desired agenda. It is when we give up our agenda, that our motives are purified to have faith in God, and see what He wants over what we want…
In His Love, Ld
