I’ve always pictured the Christian life as Jesus coming into our lives. And it is not a wrong picture. Jesus says in Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone should hear my voice and open the door, then I will come in to him and will dine with him.”

But it is also true that we are entering into Him! Romans 5:2, “Through him [Jesus] we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand.” And Hebrews 10:19, “Since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus…”

If the Father is the room, Jesus is the door, and our faith is the key to open the door. So, being a Christian is Jesus entering our lives and occupying every room in our life. But you can also think that being a Christian is us entering God and being able to go to any room we please as long as we have the right key called faith.

Let’s dwell on the first picture for a bit – God entering our life. He may have walked through the front door but often He’s confined to the living room or the kitchen. But there are rooms that haven’t been opened to him yet. There’s the bedroom perhaps, or the man-cave, or the entertainment room that Jesus has not gotten an access to. It might even be a small space in our bedroom that we have not given an access to Jesus yet. Perhaps because we never thought of or didn’t want to. But growing as a Christian is letting Jesus have every nook and cranny of our lives as we become aware of them. It is constantly opening doors to Him that were previously shut or that were once open but now are closed. A room could be called “smart phone.” Another room could be “opiate.” Another room, “over-eating.”

And what will open those doors is faith. We need faith to open certain sections of our lives to God because we derive so much pleasure from them. When we open it and give it to Jesus, we are afraid that life will be less pleasurable. But trusting Jesus is that the pleasure He gives will be better than the pleasure we currently derive.

Perhaps it is when Jesus has thoroughly and sufficiently entered our lives, we want to enter in His life. Once we have gotten the taste of Jesus cleaning, clearing, and throwing out dirty and ugly things in our lives, we taste the sweet holiness that is Him and we will want to have more of Him by entering into Him.

Let Him enter into your life so that you will want to enter into His!
