I remember an old tale that goes like this. A man was selling a house to a new owner for a shockingly low price. But there was one requirement. That the old owner retains the right to a nail that was driven to the front door of the house. The new owner didn’t think much of it and agreed and bought the house. Soon after, the old owner started hanging dead animals on that nail! After a while, the whole house started to stink and the new owner could no longer live in the house. So, the new owner was forced to sell back the house at a lower price than what he had originally bought it for.
God tells us to get rid of our sins so that they don’t come back to haunt us. Whatever we do not drive out from our lives will become a trap for us and will stink up our whole life. That is what the Israelites experienced soon after moving into the promised land (led by Moses and Joshua).
“I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers…. you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars. But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.” Judges 2:1,2,3
When the Israelites moved into the promised land, they were commanded to get rid of the people who were already living there. Or else those inhabitants will contaminate them and lead them astray. And that is exactly what happened. Because they didn’t drive them out when they first moved in, those enemies of God came back over and over to harass them for generations to come.
Are you affected by a generational curse? Perhaps, alcoholism? Violence? Infidelity? You must drive it out! If you are a child of God, God has given you the strength to do it. Show no mercy! Get rid of it. You will be happier for it. And the generations following you, your children and grandchildren, will be free because of the decisive action you have taken!
Act the miracle!
