When we realize just how impossible it is to believe in God, we will give all credit to God Himself. Human will is such that once it chooses to believe in the self (rather than God), no amount of evidence will ever change that – not even a miracle from heaven!

When Peter heals a lame man and then preaches about Jesus, he is brought to the Council to be reprimanded. And this is what council members say to one another: “What shall we do with these men? For that a notable sign has been performed through them is evident to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in his name.”

Did you see it? These council members KNEW that a miracle has happened. But they simply would not admit that it was from God and that Jesus was the messiah from God. Not even a miracle changed their mind about Jesus! Since they were bent on going on in their own way, nothing was going to change their mind – not even a miracle!

This has several implications:

1) We ought to be thankful if we are believers. Something greater than a miracle had to happen in your life for you to believe.

2) Don’t put excessive hope on a miracle. Even if it happens, it may not do a whole lot.

3) We must be on our knees praying for our children and loved ones to know Christ – this will NOT happen apart from the greatest of miracles from God (The one greater than the miracles Moses performed in Egypt since they failed to convince Pharaoh…)

Do pray for miracles. But pray all the more for God to open your eyes to see them as miracles from God. A miracle of having our hearts changed and becoming submissive to God’s will…
