What is it about adolescents that are so infuriating?
Have you yourself or known someone who rebelled royally against their parents? But why would they do that? Unless there really was something wrong with the parents (I know all rebellious adolescents think that), it is not logical to rebel against the parents.
Only if they thought about it a little. Parents have clothed them, housed them, spent thousands of dollars on toys, took them on trips, and sacrificed much for their children.
But why is it that when they turn teenagers, they want to have nothing to do with their parents? Why is it that they question the very motive of their parents for not allowing them to do what they want to do? e.g. “You won’t allow me to go to that party because you want me to be miserable!” They don’t trust in their parents’ good intentions for them…
How this is so much like most Christians!
We do not really trust God’s good intentions for us. Isn’t that why we do not live according to His laws, but rather according to our own laws?
Isn’t that why the very connotation of the word, “law,” seem so restricting and bondage-producing?
Only those who are mature in Christ will see God’s law as life giving and freedom inducing. Just as grown children who are thankful for their parents’ rules that kept them out of trouble…
Ps. 119:129, “Your statues are wonderful; therefore I obey them. The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.”
Pray that God will give you the eyes to see how delightful His word can be!
