2 Corinthians 11:3-4-But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

When you think back on decisions you’ve made or ideas you almost followed through on, how much of it consisted of something that resonated with a past feeling, situation, or person that made it seem right to do. This is why when we speak of sin or doing wrong, it can be easy to commit because it resonates with something in us…

This is why we should be careful when we unmercifully judge others sins that we don’t commit. We usually don’t find it resonating with us because we have never experienced it, or have no temptation towards it. But if you do, you know how easy you can rationalize your way to your own lust, much like Eve did with the serpent!

But through God’s graciousness, we soon realize how much we need the Word in our life, to debate with what seems right to us. God’s Word the Bible says is “a lamp under our feet”. Meaning the Word and Spirit illuminates the evil behind what we sinfully lust for and desire to do, or are emotionally charged to accept and condone. Yet none of those feelings, ideas, and justifications lead us to a truly devoted life in Christ.

A sincere heart and pure devotion to Christ comes when we allow ourselves to be challenged by the truth and accept it. When we live offended by the truth of God and disregard it, it because it challenges what we resonate with and accept as true. Not knowing it is God’s loving Spirit coming to pull us out of deception, to clearly see such desires and actions for what they truly are!
